Tejay Van Garderen crashed alone far from the finish. He also went straight in a right-hand corner far from the finish. He was not back in the bunch when the mass-crash happened. Nevertheless still got the same time. Not a good UCI Jury-day at @AmgenTOC. https://t.co/C42muqklXy

Crazy decision in California last night. Van Garderen crashed and was making his way back to the peloton, but there was another crash with more than 3km to go. Officials decided just to give him the same time as the leaders, despite it not being 3km and he wasn’t in the group!
