Going to be v interesting to hear from all riders about the information being relayed during the race, if there was any.. Either way, they’d have known 5 riders were up the road, and there’s a responsibility with no radios to count them coming back
Lack of information? Other riders knew Kiesenhofer was in front...
With all due respect, there were 2 blackboard motorbikes. One with breakaway riders, one in front of peloton. With times updated every 3 or 4 minutes.
So this looks like a motorbike showing the time gaps to the favourites group with 15km to go (17km for this group). [Thanks to @wojtekk_b for pointing me to this point.] Surely the board would have shown them that there is a lone rider up front followed by 2 chasers? #Tokyo2020
Alles zat tegen. Koploper en peloton in een schot. Tokio had even (137km) geen mobiel netwerk.
#olympischespelen #methetmestussendetanden
You’re going to read a lot about lack of information in the race! What wont’ get highlighted is that when you know you won’t have radios your team should have a communication plan! Complaining about lack of info afterwards only highlights this!
So hard to believe that I don’t. It’s an unacceptable excuse even if it’s genuinely the case. They have staff on roadside, in team cars + they can presumably do simple maths as to how many went and how many came back. They should respect the winner and hush with their excuses.
Interesting reading this debate on women’s race. My take? Riders do 70 some race days a year with radios, then one magical day they get taken away. And they have to read scribbled chalk 100m away on the back of a motorbike while their heart rate is maxed out. What could go wrong?
For the crowd that says no race radios makes racing more exciting. Yes. You are right. I know this as former rider. As a pilot, I know that accidentally leaving a crescent wrench in a jet engine makes flying more exciting too. Chaos does not equal better racing. Just more chaotic
